The Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly released the list of “World First-Class Universities” and “First-class Discipline” of the second round. The “Material Science and Engineering” of Soochow University – led by the College of Nano Science and Technology (CNST), the National Pilot College – was identified as one of the first-class disciplines as part of the national “Double First-Class Initiative” following its designation in the first round.

The “Double First-Class Initiative” is a major strategy adopted by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council to accelerate the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines in the new historical era. It is of far-reaching significance for China’s higher education, serving the nation’s innovation-driven development strategies, as well as promoting the economic and social development of the country.

During the first round of construction, CNST has successfully achieved its goals of the current stage. With the strong support of the university and other colleges, CNST has made remarkable progresses in talent training, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance and innovation, as well as international exchanges and cooperation. In the second round of construction, CNST will continue to benchmark against world-class standards, develop along the lines of our academic strengths, and integrate scientific research and production, in order to build a science and engineering discipline cluster of global impact and industrial prospect.
